There are many people from other Countries that want a better life so they come to the United States. People that migrate to the United States of America want to achieve the American Dream like having a decent job, better Education, and to own a home. People migrate to United States of America because it impossible to achieve their goals in their homeland. I’m writing about a man they call Peter Dragon, which had life hard in Jamaica than migrated to the United States of America for a better living. There was a man that people called Peter Dragon from Jamaica.
At a six to one ration of mostly men, they left England to seek profit from gold. (Document C) Therefore, men were in constant competition for the vague amount of women. In contrast, New England Puritans came to America with a long-term planned idea. Young-aged migrants bound for America traveled in large families creating social and family based stability. The Pilgrims, arriving in America the year 1620, began the journey for the search of the "perfect" religion that satisfied the needs of the people. Many people came to America in search of religious freedom. They hoped to escape religious persecution, which they were suffering from in their countries. They didn’t want to establish a church like the Church of England. America gave them a chance to finally worship freely and have an opportunity to participate in any religion they wished, many even came up with their own religion. Many religious groups formed the first 13 colonies based on their colonial beliefs.
In the early 1800's many people came into America looking for new opportunities and played an important role in our countries history. In Germany there were many reasons why people wanted to migrate to America. Because of modernization many family businesses failed and the people hoped that they could bring their businesses to America. Population density was also a problem. There was also lots of political problems in Germany and random attacks from outside nations that scared many people into immigration.
The movement of Christianity had become popular for immigrants to migrate from Europe to America with the opportunities to abandon current religious groups. A sense of freedom of religion and economic gains had filled other countries townspeople with hopes and dreams for a better life. This ‘meant an opportunity to strip away the corruptions of Europe, to join Christian faith with liberating aspects of American experience.’ In this era the townspeople were tired of being forced to fight regarding religious and political beliefs. America provided space that gave the churches “religious breathing room”. It gave Christian groups the opportunities to develop their own religious visions and beliefs to create a congregation.
When people from overseas began to come over to America, one of the reasons they came was to be able to live, religiously, the way they wanted. Settlers, who did not agree with the idea that uniformity must be present in each society, settled the northern colonies that helped form the United States. From this act the New England colonies were formed and were later known, “as plantations of religion”. Settlers fled to this land
People immigrate to a different land for many different reasons. The general reasoning is mostly freedom, people want the freedom to do what they want, earn a living how they want, practice their religion without prosecution or harassment. The first big wave of immigration in the 1800’s was the potato famine of
Though America may not treat immigrants as badly as other countries we should welcome them with open arms. Many immigrants say the same thing when asked the question, “Why did you choose to come to America?” Their answer is often that America is said to have more opportunities. My Aunt once told me that people would tell her that the roads were paved with gold. These immigrants truly believe that by bringing their families to America they would be able to provide better lives for them. In the case of some immigrants there may be more opportunities in America for them, but because of the immigration laws they are stuck with unfair and unjust low paying jobs.
Kimberly George US History Before 1876 9/10/2013 Migration to the Americas is an important part of our history. Some people chose to come to this country others were forced to come. Many people chose to come to the New World for religious freedom. The governing powers of the Old World were forcing their beliefs upon the people and they could no longer take it. Another reason people came to the Americas was because they were looking for a better opportunity that what was offered in their homeland.
We live in a country whose foundation was built by immigrants. My grandparents, from both sides, immigrated to the United States because their parents wanted a better life for their children. Being an immigrant in those days was not easy. Many obstacles had to be overcome. Not only did everyone need to learn a new language, work had to be found in a country where the customs were different from what they were used to.
