Why Christianity Is Misunderstood

Why do so many people misunderstand Christianity? The main reason is the actions of Christians themselves. We have public scandals involving high-profile Christian leaders, sexual escapades of evangelical pastors, Roman Catholic priests committing sexual molestation on young children (Towns, Cord Christianity, pp 97-98), fighting among Christians themselves, there’s stealing, and fraud. The list could go on and on. With all this going on, no wonder people lose confidence in the church. People see the church as cold, judgmental, self absorbed and a money grabbing institution. With all of this, no wonder people are turned off to Christianity. I feel that Christians need to pull together and change the way people look at Christianity. The first step is to put God back in to everything we do. We need to remember what the church is. Church is the Lord’s house. It is a place to worship the Lord, to have fellowship, a place where Jesus Christ dwells “For where two or three are gathered together in my name, then am I in the midst of them” (Matt help those in need, without being judgmental. We need to reach out to the troubled youth. This can be done if we create a positive atmosphere within the community. We need to teach the community that with God all things are possible and that all our needs are met. “We need to love our neighbors as we love ourselves” Matt.22:39. As a result people will see and feel the love of God through our actions.. 18:20). Church is a place to learn, how we should live our lives as Christians, so we can teach the gospel to all. After the church is back on solid ground, Christians can begin to build a church, where people would have no misunderstandings of Christianity. I strongly believe that the church needs to figure out how to reach out to those who believe, but searching for a deeper more meaningful connection with our Lord. We need to
