Sean Young Ernest Merlino Principles of Management March 27, 2013 Who Moved My Cheese? The four characters in the story Who Moved My Cheese by Spencer Johnson were all on the same mission. They all wanted to “find” the cheese. We think of ourselves when reading the book because we might have reacted when faced with similar situations. Everyone in life wants to live the best life possible and just be comfortable with what they have. At first, they were all very hardworking and woke up early every morning, scurrying around the maze looking for cheese. They usually found bits and pieces of cheese until one day they found a room full of it. If any human found a room full of something they wanted, we would all go crazy. The characters quickly sat down to devour the cheese to their hearts content. Just like we all would, we would go there everyday and make it a daily routine. If something was right in front of us, we would drool in the fact that its that easy of an access. Change happens throughout the book and that reflects our real lives. Change is a part of life. No matter how well off you are, you must realize that we live in a dynamic world. Things happen. The stock market goes up, but it also goes down. You do a good job at work, but in a slow economy, you can get fired through no fault of your own. Always anticipate change, or “get ready for the cheese to move.” The one thing that you can always count on is that change happens all around us, all the time. Thus, you need to anticipate that things will be changing often beyond your ability to control it. This helps monitor change in my life or in the story the smell of the cheese often so you know when it is getting old. As change happens, there are usually leading indicators. If you are paying attention, you will be able to spot changes in your environment before it happens. So, when things
