Edgar Allan Poe was a very interesting man is whose poetry struck of millions of people around the globe. He is remembered as perhaps the greatest poet of all time. He was a mysterious man. He had his faults but he is remembered for three reasons: his tragic early years, his captivating poetry, and his surprizing death. First, his tragic early years really shaped his life. Edgar Allen Poe was raised in Virginia. His parents but they had part with him. Not by choice because they both died and was three (bio,1.) He ended up with the foster parent named John Allen (poetry,1.) She went to the University of Virginia were through his courses he got expelled due to non payment from his foster parent. Even though he got very good grades. He is unlike many poets who had a very good college education. He ended up going into the United States Army(bio,1.) He ended up marrying his 13-year-old cousin Virginia when he was 22. He even set a swimming record swimming up the river. The reason that historians believe he did it was because his rich cousin was trying to woo her. it was a jealousy thing that caused him to marry his cousin and live out most of his lie with her. She was drinking a lot and he ended up being found semi-conscious on October 3, 1849 and gain the consciousness to tell the authorities what happened. There is many speculations to this story some people think somebody killed him by spiking his drink. Some people think that he just drank too much alcohol and gave himself alcohol poisoning. To this day his death remains uncertain. There is not enough evidence to back any claim regarding his death. He was 40 years old. His wife Virginia died in 1847 of tuberculosis.
