Who Am I Paper Kathy Corbin Liberty University July 13, 2012 Career Instrument Results The first step in determining career interest and type of work environment my personality type may be best suited to required I take the interest profiler survey (O*net interest profiler, 2000) and the work importance locator survey (O*net importance locator, 2000). The interest profiler contains six different vocational personality types: realistic, investigative, artistic, social, enterprising, and conventional with descriptive information about each type. The Work Importance Locator also contains six different types of work values: achievement, independence, recognition, relationships, support, and working conditions with descriptive information about each type. Both surveys are compatible with Holland’s (Niles and Harris-Bowlsbey, 2009) theory of Types and Person-Environment Interactions. After completing the interest profiler, I scored the report and the results were artistic - four points, social – four points, and enterprising – two points. This would seem to indicate I have equal interests in both the artistic and social personality types with some minor interest in the enterprising personality type. I did not have any points in any other categories and I think my points were low in the three categories I did score in. Holland (Niles and Harris-Bowlsbey, 2009) defined the artistic personality type as liking “ambiguous, free, unsystemized activities” (p. 64), valuing self-expression and inspiration. The positive outcome of these preferences may result in becoming proficient in art, language, music, drama, and writing, but result in a lack of office or business type performance.
