This is because of the nature of the role of counsellors. We need to be confidential, emotionally detached, empathetic and self aware. The ability to reflect or be self aware helps one to grow. This is because it will identify areas that are lacking and necessary for development. When this is done, it helps to create time to read,
“Unpacking the Invisible Knapsack of White Privilege” In Peggy McIntosh’s essay, she addressed several issues that are considered to be very important ones. She speaks of how whites are given hidden privileges, yet they don’t even realize it. I believe that the purpose for her writing this, was to bring out in the open the issues of oppression with regards to the dominant race and their “unearned privileges” that they are so oblivious to. McIntosh compared this situation to how men are more privileged and advantaged, and women are at a more disadvantaged state. In comparison, she also stated that men do indeed admit to a woman’s disadvantage, yet a man will not agree to being more advantaged, because they too are oblivious to this fact.
However, if they feel that people are really attuned to their concerns and want to listen, they are likely to explain in detail what they feel and why. Active listening allows individuals to end conflict or avoid conflict by making sure each party understands what the other is saying. Identify
Both Sources 1 & 3 support the view of white people in the process of thinking in a racist way, for example they do not believe that they should have a right to vote and also they are not given the same privileges as white people. Although in saying this, both sources are quite similar in the fact that they both suggest that black people are discriminated from the white
One law is considered just because it favors the human beings personality and elevates him morally, while the other law is considered unjust because it demeans human personality. The reader connects and understands the logic between King's words in his writing because they are reasonable thus, don't understand why racial segregation is being held among the black people if the white people know that such restriction is damaging to the black individuals personalities. Therefore, segregation is considered an unjust law among black individuals throughout
Much of his writing focused on the problem of racism in the United States. Baldwin argues that racism is a psychological problem that white America has, and concludes that until white people can learn to love themselves the problem cannot be cured. “There is no reason for you to try to become like white people and there is no basis whatever for their impertinent assumption that they must accept you (The Fire Next Time, 19).” As an African American, Baldwin was well equipped to unmask the illusions of white supremacy. Baldwin might sound a little harsh when he is talking about white people, but he did not hate white people even though their attitudes and actions infuriated him. “Instead, he developed an unsentimental compassion for whites so trapped by their fear that they are deeply alienated from their true selves (Jon, 3)”.
Planning started that each individual is recognised as having their own particular way of communicating. Without an understanding of this we will struggle to achieve a person centred approach, and to hear about people’s hopes and needs, and to achieving a better life for each person. This booklet is meant to offer practical help and give hints on how to begin to understand the person and their communication. There is a communication checklist on page 15 to help Person Centred Planning succeed and a resources guide on page 16 and 17 to give more reading information. When starting with others say you should except that other may not care for what you say causing controversy. It doesn’t always have to start out with a disagreement, but using other resources to start out a paper is always useful because later in the text the reader gets to see if you dis/agree with what others say. Once you have used what others have said be sure to continue it later through out the text. It reminds the reader what you are talking about and it allows you to keep track of not getting off the main subject. If you start jumping around in the text the reader won’t be able to follow along.
Depending on the underlying forces, distress can sometime be dealt with by physical means, such as, an immediate removal from the cause such as taking a break from work or from caring for a difficult, very ill, demanding relative. Once the trigger or cause of distress is known, talk to the person and ask them how they feel that distress can be reduced or prevented. Involving the person will show that you respect and value them. People are different and cope with things in different ways, so it is vital to involve them in decision making. You could suggest that the person keeps a diary of their feelings.
“Even if people wanted interracially, I think they’d keep is kind of quiet” explained a minister on campus at Ole Miss. People that believed in racism warned that racial equality would lead to the “mongrelization” of America. I believe that whatever makes someone happy is what they should go with. You shouldn’t judge a book by its cover before ever meeting them. Just because a person is either black or white doesn’t mean that either is bad it just means that their different and only by a bit of difference.
