The Secrets in America “In proportion as my racial group was being made confident, comfortable, and oblivious, other groups were likely being made inconfident, uncomfortable, and alienated”. In the article White Privilege: Unpacking the Invisible Knapsack, Peggy McIntosh talks about the privileges that whites have over blacks. Whites are taught to ignore the fact that they enjoy the privileges that blacks do not have because we live in a society of white dominance. They refuse to realize that their “natural” position of power has been talked about. The author tries to connect with the readers so that we will begin to think about the issues rather than putting them to the side and continuing to live their lives in denial. McIntosh
