When the Rain Stops Falling When thinking about what is a good play, there are numerous elements we can analyze about such as the stage setting, the lighting, the music etc. But among all the elements, acting maybe one of the most crucial parts since the audience perceives it more straightly. Then what can make the acting outstanding as well as leave deep impression on the audience, from my perspective that would be believability and vividness of the performances. In the play When the Rain Stops Falling, it begins in the year of 2039 as a fish falls from the sky and lands at feet of Gabriel York. The actor who plays this character is Evelyn Gaynor. His role is very important as in the beginning he has a marvelous monologue which gives information that he is about to meet his son who he haven’t seen for two decades. He first recalls how he got the phone call from his son, the actor stands in the center of the stage, looks like really thinking about something and then gives a surprised look when he says no one would call him in that hour and it turns out to be his own son. He hung up the phone out of panic and then he was upset. To show his sadness and make it believable, as the actor saying the words “I trying to concentrate on the pages I was reading.... I tasted something salty in the corner of my mouth and realized I was crying”, his tone changes from rather relax to a very sad, regretful one and with a serious frown on his face. After he called back and asked his son to have lunch with him, he asks himself why he did this. The actor’s voice speed begins to rise and he begins a series of actions, he walks to the left side of stage and then goes right and then goes left again, he also puts his hand on his face and messes his hair.
