In this essay I will examine the different functions performed by the family for individuals and society by exploring ideas expressed by the different sociologist groups including functionalism and Marxism. Functionalists had a strong belief that the family is a positive foundation. There view on the family is one that works well with the needs of an industrial society for a workforce that is not just geographically mobile but also socially mobile. This idea they believe benefits all aspects of society is that all families should be a nuclear family and by this they mean the husband is the bread winner this is a role to support the family his wife and children, functionalists call this the instrumental role. The expectation in a nuclear family is that the wife stays at home and looks after the children, she would clean and cook and provide the emotion in the family and they call this the expressive role.

As I continued in high school, we had to read "A Gathering of Old Men" by Ernest Gaines and "When I Was a Puerto Rican" by Esmeralda Santiago over the summer and write what was required of us. "When I Was a Puerto Rican" was the book that I found was more interesting and I felt that essay was better than the other. As my high school year went on, I noticed that my essay writing skills began to progress due to all of the writing provided. In the middle of Sophomore year, my English class started reading "Black Boy" by Richard Wright and had discussions which eventually lead to writing another essay. In History class for sophomore year there was a Global History Regents required.
I fell instantly and so did my kids. He is the best and is everything I ever wanted and the father my kids deserve. But, there was still something missing and I couldn’t put my finger on it. Even though I had a great husband, fun job, and beautiful healthy kids, I started to become depressed. Depression is different from just being sad or unhappy.
At this point in time my definition of family is a group of two or more people who desire to be together, to share things and ideas, and care for each other, to support each other, and contribute for the good of the whole. My present family is a blended family and consists of a stepfather, myself, and my two sons. I managed to marry my best friend, who also happened to be an acquaintance of my younger son, Phillip, who was 15 at the time. This was a good thing because both the boys are now becoming young adults, and my husband can still be a friend
Satisfaction never runs out in my life while my mother is still here with me. My greatest mother is a responsible woman. She not only takes care of my family very well but also is a patient woman in my life. She gives me a good education. For example, when I was five years old, she already sends me to school until now in university.
