I also liked the way that the author went into every detail making the book easier for me to go back and review or read a certain topic again. I admired the way Napoleon won battles and was determined to win at any cost. I enjoyed the book, but I just have a different view or perspective than Owen Connelly of Napoleon. Owen Connelly negatively focused so much about Napoleon’s blunders. The author believes that Napoleon won many battles because of his enemies’ mistakes and not because of what he actually was…the greatest military mind that ever lived.
How significant was William’s military prowess to his claim to the throne of England? William the Conqueror had a very weak claim to the throne – if you really think about it – and his ultimate claim of the throne was down to quite a few reasons. For example, the weaknesses in the claims of others also trying to gain the throne as well as Harold’s oath in 1064; however the most significant reason was his military prowess. William’s military prowess and the new type of warfare he demonstrated to Anglo-Saxon England was one of the most significant reasons he succeeded in claiming the English throne. He was a very experienced and ruthless military commander, ruler and administrator who had unified Normandy and inspired fear and respect outside of his duty.
Do you agree with the view that, as far as strategy and tactics were concerned, Haig and his generals were ‘pretty good’? Use sources 6 and 7 and your own knowledge. Sir Douglas Haig was regarded as one of the most significant generals during the First World War. He faced a number of problems that were difficult to overcome, but his strategies and tactics helped him to get through them, and soon enough he created the most sophisticated and massive artillery corps that was to crack the German lines. Despite Haig’s successes, he had a fair bit of opposition against him.
This was true in this war also and they were on both sides of the battle lines. Here in colonies we had Betsy Ross who made the very first American Flag. Kindig (1995) Benedict Arnold is known for being a traitor but he was also a very skilled commander and won major battle for the Americans before having a change of heart. Once that happened he had to escape to England or be hung to death. Benjamin Franklin was known for many things during his life, but he was the one responsible for securing the help of the French during the revolution.
As well as all this, William had a store of the finest weapons in France. Leadership William was one of the bravest people of his time. When his army was having difficulties during the battle, he bravely led his army back up the hill to make another attack upon the English. Due to William's intelligence, he arranged his army in long rows, archers at the front to try and soften up the English's shield wall, foot-soldiers in the middle, and the cavalry at the back for a big attack. The retreating trick explained in the above paragraph also shows great leadership. Luck Luckily for William, the wind changed direction in his favour on his journey north to England.
Any man can take extreme risks on the battlefield and even initiate attacks on the enemy. However, it takes a very skilled and tactically efficient man to be able to plan and successfully infiltrate the enemy position, this is what the Romans wanted. The centurions made it very clear to the soldiers of their own army that if they were to become disloyal
Cesar Gutierrez Jr. History 1301 George Washington When thinking of George Washington, first president of the U.S. is probably the first fact that comes to mind. We grow up learning that at such a young age, and sadly that’s probably the only thing some know about him. The numerous amounts of victories in such difficult battles is quite mind blowing, leaves you wondering where we’d be if it wasn’t for him. Which is why George Washing is known as the Father of the U.S. and many will argue, the best president of the U.S. by far. Washington was born on February 22,1732 in Westmoreland County, Virginia and was the first son of his father Augustine Washington and his second wife Mary B. Washington.
Hamilton showed his Intelligence and General George Washington took him in as his aide-de-camp. Hamilton wanted Washington to give him field command but Washington needed him so much he refused until the end of the war. Hamilton was George Washington’s most trusted aide. The two men worked great together. Washington provided some general ideas about what he wanted done and Alexander Hamilton would transcribe Washington's thoughts
This was also a big reason why the American citizens were against the Vietnam War. After gathering an abundant amount information from various sources it’s safe to conclude that Vietcong is much more advanced and well prepared to war than Southern Vietnam and America. America didn’t have adequate tactics, and were poorly supported by their people. Alongside, Vietcong was well prepared as they had previous experience from the Guerrilla war and were aided by various other countries, which were close to their homeland. Also, the war occurred on Vietnamese ground, which was familiar to the Vietcong’s because they were able to use this information to their
How will the colonist prevail over such a mighty army and navy of Great Britain? How can the colonist defeat someone with the size 4 times of them? The American’s won this war with pure heart and commitment to the idea of gaining independence from Britain. The Americans new they were fighting for more than Britain. The Americans just needed to keep the idea of fighting for their independence and never give up that idea.
