This theory highlights four different types of leadership behavior based on combining directive and supportive behavior: DIRECTING (high directive, low support), COACHING (high directive, high supporting), SUPPORTING (low directive, high supportive), and DELEGATING (low directive, low supportive). The leader's function is to continually evaluate and adapt his or her behavior to each follower's maturity (i.e., willingness) to complete the task at hand. For instance, when a follower has lower experience, it prescribes that a leader should tell the follower how to get the job done. When a follower is more mature, he or she does not need as much direction or significant support in accomplishing the task. In this case, it would be best to delegate the task to the follower.
If an employee can improve their output they earn eventually more money. In addition, are many people prefer a job that has variety and change. For this group of people, a business environment where there is continuous improvement is more attractive and more likely to result in job satisfaction. 2. Activity 1 Examine Syer and Connolly and Bruce Tuckmans theory of team development and compare the two Syer and Connolly believe that effective team development requires certain aspects to be in place in order for the development to happen, they write that there are two elements to team development, maintenance and task roles. In order for the team to develop they need to have task roles such as analysis, decision making, planning and design, maintenance roles are areas such as being concerned about people’s feelings and relationship between team members, continually working towards cohesion within the team and preventing negative conflict within the team, they also believe that task and maintenance roles are interconnected and both are required for the success of teams. ( Syer and Connolly 1996) Bruce Tuckmans theory related to how teams build from the start of their journey together and some of the transitions they go through when building the team dynamic, Tuckman describes these thus: Forming – when a team are trying to develop their roles and responsibilities are unclear, the team members do not want conflict and therefore tend to not make any decisions for fear of upsetting one another, they simply want to gather information about each other before making any commitment to taking on responsibility, this often happened when someone new joins and established team, they as individuals will be reluctant to take on any responsibility. Storming – when team members become more established and knowledgeable and want to show what they have learned, this can lead to conflict and power struggles as their skills and understanding develop and they challenge each other’s ideas.

Peer Evaluation The relevance of peer evaluation is to objective review the positive and negative occurrences or incidents within the team and as a team member in order to learn from the experience. This review allows for discussion of possible improvement or corrective action working as a team and on a team as a member. Peer evaluation The below evaluation was received by team members on the Finishline1 Team. Review of the specific items of reference and the questions asked allows for a more indepth review of how a team member is perceived among a peer group or misinterpretation of what the team member projected to the team. It is meant as a learning experience and a means to improve professional development with teams as each individual moves forward throughout his or her career.
As well as being fun, team activities increase knowledge and allow teams to develop weak areas of expertise as well as enhancing team support, encouraging mentoring and developing leadership skills. There are three main types of teams these are dependant, independent and interdependent. A dependant team is where the members of the group are reliant on the leader of the group for guidance and support and would not be able to complete the task without the team leader, due to this the leader of the group would have to adopt an autocratic leadership style, so that the members of their team would be able to complete the task in hand. An independent team is where each member of the team is able to work effectively by themselves to complete the same task, the leadership style used by this group would be democratic because they would have to listen to each other’s ideas and all equally contribute. In addition, they should group the team members according to their specific skills, and play the role needed to accomplish a particular project. Team communication and commitment from each member is essential for a productive team. Management’s challenge is to get team members to set aside personal ambitions, and to work together to accomplish the task given. One strategy to accomplish this “would be peer evaluation,” in which team members evaluate each other’s team performance. Members would then recognize his or her performance level as well as members of the team (Jooyoung, Tae Hyun, & Daehyun, 2011).
