What Sports Means to Me I have been interested in sports and sports-related activities for as long as I can remember. Both sides of my grandparents were heavily involved in sports, for one of my grandfathers coached high school basketball for many years and the other committed to play golf and tennis for the prestigious Tulane University. My mother was heavily involved in swimming in her youth, a talent that she took to the collegiate level to the small Slippery Rock College in Pennsylvania, and my athletic father walked on the Sam Houston State basketball team for two seasons. For example, if I went up to bat without any confidence in myself, I was destined to fail and disappoint, and I believe this philosophy works for any situation, for if one does anything without confidence, that particular something will not meet that person’s standards. Sports taught me to be a very confident person, and confidence has a lot to do with my personality. Sports also taught me to work hard for better results, which can be applied most directly to school. Most importantly, sports taught me the aspects of teamwork and trust. I was always there for my teammates on and off the field, and I know for a fact that they would still do the same. This not only applies to my teammates but to my friends and family as well, for none of these networks would be fully operational without the trust and support of one another. Today, I see myself as still being as involved in sports as possible, for I play on almost every one of my fraternity’s intramural teams that our fraternity offers. It honestly gives me a chance to “re-live the glory days”, something that I need to do from time to time for my overall sanity. Also, I am an Aggie football fanatic. Because I can’t exactly represent a team on a personal level, I do the best I can to support my Aggie football team, and I have only missed a handful of away games during my college
