What can rodents teach us about love and sex, if anything What’s the best way for a girl to make every guy in a room drop his jaw to the ground? Could the answer to that produce the same results if used by lab rats looking for a lover? Surprisingly, the ways rats attract each other is very similar with the way humans attract each other. In general rats sexual relationships have very similar aspects to humans. Learning about rats sexual behavior could teach us a lot about the way humans sexually interact, and maybe help attract that dream boy or girl. The first step in attraction is catching the targets eye to hopefully spark some desire to approach the attention seeker. Humans do this in many different ways. A girl might twist her finger into her hair, or wink. Guys stretch their muscles and act tough. On the other hand, rats have a completely different life style than humans, and an even less similar body. That doesn’t necessarily mean that their behavior is different. Rats actually flirt just like humans and just as much. The Article “A Tale of Two Rodents” by Kelly Lambert described the females way of attracting a male as “darting around the cage and engaging in the ultimate rat flirtation response: ear wiggling. I still feel as if I am watching a cartoon when I see this behavior, the ears look like little helicopter propellers as the female entices the male to approach her”(2.) Rats use the same concept as human flirtation, stand out and give the target some hints and signs that you want to get down and dirty. The lesson in this is to pay attention to the signs the person gives you to find out if they are interested. Another aspect of attraction that both rats and humans have in common is that both species are subconsciously attracted to certain qualities.
