The Han Dynasty’s land was a part of modern day China, North Korea, and Vietnam. The Han Dynasty was effective in the implementation of problem solving, the sciences, and careful thought. Mathematics Within the Han Dynasty, there was a large amount of technologies and discoveries. An important source of evidence is the Nine Chapters of the Mathematical Art, a practical handbook of 246 problems intended to provide methods to be used to solve everyday problems of engineering, surveying, trade and taxation, which was compiled over the period of the Han Dynasty to restore and introduce mathematical methods to the common man, where it gives the problem, answer, and steps in solving each example. The first chapter consists of 38 problems on land surveying, which prove the existence of area calculations on triangles, rectangles, trapeziums, and circles, fraction operations, use of the Euclidean algorithm method for finding the greatest common divisor of two numbers, and a very accurate approximation for π. The next chapter contains 46 problems concerning the exchange of goods, particularly the exchange rates among 20 different types of grain, beens, and seeds, which prove the existence of percentage, a decimal system of units and money, proportion calculation methods, and the introduction of the rule of 3 for solving proportion problems. The fourth chapter consists of 24
