Good leaders are made not born. If you have the desire and willpower, you can become an effective leader. To inspire your workers into higher levels of teamwork, there are certain things you must be, know, and, do. These do not come naturally, but are acquired through hard work. Leaders learn by trying things out and then critiquing their performance.
It was now my responsibility to show others how to become leaders. This will make me a better citizen of the United States because I will have the skills to become a leader in my community. My continuing preparation for good citizenship involves the ethical code of conduct: honor. This is something that is not taught in any other class in high school. I expect myself, and others, to be honest, to be cadets with integrity, and to exemplify ethical behavior.
A leader who does that is not empowering their employees with the structure and tools necessary to be successful. Sometimes being task-oriented is a way of being people-oriented as well; you're setting them up to get the job done right. Self-Insight 3.2: Are you ready? Servant leaders devote themselves to serving the needs of organization members and focus on meeting the needs of those they lead. By developing employees to bring out the best in them and coaching others to encourage their self-expression, servant leaders strive to facilitate personal growth in all who work with them. For any effective leader, he or she must listen and possess the ability to persuade, grow, and build a strong sense of community, but for the servant leader, these are necessary traits to develop, and demonstrate in one's daily interactions with others. Merriam-Webster defines a leader as a “person who has commanding authority or influence.” This is the definition that many accept and bring to mind when thinking of any given leader. But what does a “leader” truly mean and what differentiates between a good one and a bad one? My definition of what a leader is, is this: Natural leaders are those who comprehend and appreciate their existence and their purpose in life. True leaders are genuine and conscious of their personal beliefs and principles and are seen representing and expressing these ideals. Leaders are risk-takers who are willing to give for those they represent without expecting anything but support in return.
Above all else I believe that a leader should give respect and receive respect from his employees. Without respect from both ends, nothing positive will come out of it. A leader should be a mentor and be able to help another employee step up and be his own leader. He or she should also be respectful in the way one approaches another employee both as an individual and in a group environment. Above all else, I believe being a leader one has to make being at work fun.

I understand the value of body language and behaviour. It’s important to do as I do and not as I say. I’m open to ideas and contributions and never dismiss an idea, even if it seems implausible at first. I have faith in my team and what they can achieve. I was instrumental in building the team, so must also take responsibility for its strengths and weaknesses.
