Ladies and gentlemen, the man I have the privilege of introducing to you today is certainly a man of honor and strength. As the son of two teachers, Tony is always quick to admit that his parents taught him the essential lessons in leading a good and faithful life. These lessons included: love, patience, honor, trust, and responsibility. And it is with these lessons that Tony Dungy has risen to the pinnacle not only in his profession, but as a man of faith as well. Tony was born in Jackson, Michigan where he began his athletic career while keeping his education and faith in focus. After a college football career at the University of Minnesota and a brief professional career with the Pittsburgh Steelers and San Francisco 49ers, he found his calling, coaching and mentoring athletes. The irony in this situation is that Mr. Dungy has repeatedly stressed that relationships, both with people and with God, are more important than sports.…show more content…
Tony has broken many milestones in his career, including being the first coach to beat all 32 NFL teams at least once, the youngest assistant coach in NFL history at age 25, and the first African-American coach to win a Super Bowl.
