Civil War A major changing point in the foundation and shaping of this country started April of 1861 and lasted until April of 1865 over this four year period America was fighting to with each other in order to make their beliefs and laws that the country would be built on. This event was known as the civil war, a battle between the union soldiers from the north and the confederate soldiers from the south. Many causality’s were suffered during this four year event and had many turning points that could have made either side victorious, but only won could come out on top and make this country what it is today and that was the north. What caused the civil war, and changed and stayed the same because the war, and what were the differences between the north and south? The United States was a country that was seeing a fast growth population, but one thing lied ahead. The nation started moving from two regions to a nation of one and they added the thirteenth, fourteenth, and fifteenth amendments to the US Constitution, they expanded federal courts and the first social welfare was established. The southern economy collapsed the country started to move towards industrial base society. The big thing that took place was that millions of former slaves became US citizens and were allowed to vote. Not all things were good that came after the war the southern states started the Ku Klux Klan in order to try and restore white supremacy and they also enacted Black codes and other laws.
