1. What is the Internet? The Internet is a very large global network of computers connected in different ways with lots of different type of Internet protocol transfer, which is broken into many packages. (Highfield, 2013) It is a group of two or more computer systems linked together including billions of public, private, business, academic and government networks. It provides email and information from computers to computers. It contains hypertext documents of the World Wide Web and the infrastructure to support emails. The two main computer networks are the Local Area Network (LAN) and the Wide Area Network (WAN). 2. What is the World Wide Web? The World Wide Web is an application that makes use of a system of hardware and software, which enables the connection of multiple computers, just as email, instant messaging and other application do. (Highfield, 2013) The backbone of the World Wide Web is made of a language that all computers can read called the HTML files. HTTP governs how the HTML files arrive and how it is coded. It is a virtual network of websites connected by hyperlinks. Websites are stored on servers on the Internet, so the World Wide Web is a part of the Internet. The browser is a interface for you to query and get information back and forth the server. To get to a web page, you must type URL in the browser. URL is a way of represent and IP address. 3. What is the relationship between the World Wide Web and the Internet? The World Wide Web is software that runs on top of the Internet; therefore World Wide Web needs the Internet to be able to function. The Internet is a hardware that does not need the World Wide Web to work; it could exist without the World Wide Web. The Internet is the foundation and the World Wide Web is what you see.
