This essay will explore and focus on what the impact of culture has on my professional practice as an adult nurse; furthermore, a critical analysis of cultural similarities and differences will be discussed, whilst critically analysing, comparing and contrasting some cultural similarities and differences. I will also include my own ideas which will be supported by theoretical evidence and frame works. Through the essay I will also include some of my own ideas, whilst providing some theoretical evidence and frameworks to support these ideas. In addition, Furthermore, this the essay will also highlight the importance of cultural awareness in order to incorporate cultural sensitivity and conclude with cultural competence. Culture aids us to understand how groups of individuals come together and how they familiarise and differentiate themselves from others. If we consider Britain in present day, it is considered to be one of the most culturally diverse countries, with a variety of cultures based on different religions, gender, age, classes and ethnic groups (Billington et. al. 1998). A good example of working with cultural sensitivity could be something as simple as finding out how a patient prefers to be addressed or even my colleagues or other working relations, for example in some African cultures such as my own it is considered rude to call somebody older than you by their first name, for example someone of hierarchy like a teacher you would put a title such as Mr(s)/Sir or a friends parent uncle/aunty would precede their first name because shows respect, whereas in some cultures this could be deemed too formal and therefore could seem
