Using a calculation called the Body Mass Index (BMI), you can determine if you fit into the obese category. BMI is based on a persons height and weight, and a BMI of more than 30 defines obesity. A score of 30 or more means that your body’s weight is 30%-40% more than your ideal weight should be. Body shape is also important. People who carry most of their weight around the waist (apple shaped) have a greater risk of heart disease and diabetes than do people with big hips and thighs (Intellihealth, 2009).

Obesity in America Calvin S. Smith October 13, 2013 As Americans, the people of this great nation have lots of health problems. A few of its terrible medical woes are: breast cancer, lung disease, heart disease, and Alzheimer’s. But one of those is not obesity. Obesity, or being extremely overweight, is not a disease of the body, but of the mind. Sure, several different medical problems can cause people to be overweight, however, those are far and few between.
The main cause of obesity in this country is the business of fast food because it’s very cheap and very unhealthy. It’s been proven that fast food can make you obese in the documentary “Super Size Me” by Morgan Spurlock. Situation Analysis. Metabical is a new prescription drug that claims to be a safe and an effective way of losing weight for moderately overweight individuals. This drug has the differentiation of FDA approval and a comprehensive support program for post purchase support. The problem is in deciding what positioning, target market, segment and marketing mix to use as initial rollout of the product, in a time when the consumers are skeptical of weight loss drugs due to of deceptive marketing stigmas. The mix should have a sufficient initial impact and long term viability on sales so as to recover CSP initial investment of $400 million in 10 years.
Whereas, Pamela Paul’s essay contains information provided solely by her, which can be seen as bias to some readers. The reader may see Pamela Paul as an over protective mother, this will then undermine her valid points on the potential carcinogens in
Larkin describes one of the girls to be ‘a bosomy English rose’ and the other ‘in specs’, who we feel is less attractive. Larkin objectifies one of the women and pictures her as a sexual object due to her looks, the other women he ‘could talk to’ suggesting this time Larkin is manipulating her personality. In the second stanza Larkin mentions ‘a ten guinea ring’, one could argue this could be a sign of marriage but not actually conforming to her, however this is ambiguous, as we do no know what girl hold this ring. What I find most significant about the ring is the fact Larkin goes against his views on consumerism to try and seduce a women. Nevertheless Larkin ‘got it back in the end’ which illustrates Larkin not fully conforming to her results in rejection.
Beside these rare cases, many individuals have a genetic predisposition that may lead to obesity. Researchers have found many obesity susceptibility genes and the combination of an obesogenic environment and a genetic predisposition will almost inescapably result in the development of obesity. However, it is possible to be obese without having a genetic predisposition. Reflecting back, when I was a child I was heavyset and huge for my age. I did not have the knowledge about Obesity.
