Name: Carmella Lawrence Student #: 70682947 Examination number: 06044100 Course: Business 110 Final Exam George Bernard Shaw once said “I am of the opinion that my life belongs to the whole community and as long as I live, it is my privilege to do for it whatever I can.” In order to implement an organization’s commitment to social responsibility, organizations must be proactive in behaving ethically and sensitively toward social, cultural, economic and environmental issues, displaying an interest towards what’s happening in the community, as well as actively participating in the solving of some of the local problems. Therefore a code of ethics must be introduced and further enforced within the organization. A code of ethics is a document outlining the principles of conduct to be used in making decisions within an organization. Striving for social responsibility helps organizations have a positive impact on its own development and its surroundings. An organization’s major concern is profit making, however its behavior in achieving a profit is also essential as it demonstrates that in achieving a profit its actions are both appropriate and fair among people. The organization will also have policies or pronouncements on how it intends to address its social impact in the community where it operates. Those affected by these policies will include its stakeholders, suppliers and the public. Social responsibility means eliminating corrupt, irresponsible or unethical behavior that might bring harm to the community, its people, or the environment before the behavior happens. An ethical course of action should be stated clearly and further enforced. However there are sometimes obstacles that present themselves. If a person or organization decides to act unethically it can cause irreparable damage. For example a course of action to be taken may not be
