REICHERT LYNCHBURG, VIRGINIA September 10, 2013 Interpretive Question 1 Does “day” mean a 24-hour period or ages? In Coogan’s The Old Testament, A Historical and Literary Introduction to the Hebrew Scriptures, the author makes the statement that it is important to remember the cultural influence as well as the genre of the message from scripture. “Visions and voices are not caused by God but can be explained through science” Discuss. (35) A vision can be termed as an experience of seeing something or someone in a trance like state or as a supernatural apparition. When complimented by voices from religious figures it can be said to evoke an even deeper religious experience for believers. However, there exists much debate on what the catalyst is for these experiences; some would argue for God attempting to communicate through his creation, whereas others believe the answer lies in science. A vision and auditory related religious experience can occur in a person consciously or unconsciously.
Many of us have heard that December 21, 2012, will be the end of the world. He also states that the Top-down processes override sensory or bottom-up information. People think that sights, sounds, and touch from the outside world constituted reality. (Reinhardt 58) Humans are simply scared of what they do not understand. The ability to use the earth energy as a way of healing or a means to happiness is something that is misunderstood. Everything we have developed due to technology would at one time be seen as magic or witchcraft such as electricity and medicine. Witchcraft is a spiritual system that fosters the free thought and will of the individual, encourages learning and an understanding of the earth and nature thereby affirming the divinity in all living things. The spells that Wiccans perform involve healing, love, harmony, wisdom and creativity.
Evaluate the claim that miracles lead to believe in a God who favours some but not all of his creation. When evaluating terms such as miracles, and concepts such as God, one has to recognise that there various ways people define them. How you define miracles may determine how you view God, and equally the opposite way around. The idea of a God who favours some but not all his creation is common. Calvin’s idea of predestination suggests that some people are God’s ‘elect’ and that, after death, these ‘elect’ will join God in heaven.

A vison is a type of religious experience, religious experiences can be separated into 2 different groups direct and indirect. In a direct religious experience the person would see god or another religious figure and they would tell them something that gives them a change of thought on something in life while in an indirect religious experience the person would see something every day such as a sunset and at that moment take in a holy experience. Obviously the idea of seeing visions and the being connected to a divine being is greatly criticised by many scientists, such as the psychologist Freud who would argue that the visions are just messages from our unconscious mind trying to get through to our conscious mind also due to a vision and any
Her "shoot for the moon" attitude make me want to work harder and reach for more ambitious goals. Thanks to Ms. Morrow, our Women's and Mixed choirs made it to state level competitions last year.
