Organizational culture is the shared set of beliefs, expectations, values, norms, and work routines that influence the ways in which individuals, groups, and teams interact with one another and cooperate to achieve organizational goals. Basically organizational culture demonstrates the unique ways organizational members perform their duties and relate to others inside and outside the organization. An example of this can be a unique way that a company handles their customer service, from the moment the customer makes contact with that company to the very end of the transaction they are trying to complete. It is important for organizational members to share a powerful commitment to cultural values, beliefs and patterns so that they can use them to achieve their goals and create a strong organizational culture. When members are not committed to share in these things, organizational culture can be weak. Organizational culture can be considered the “personality” of an organization because it influences the way its members behave. Managers play an important part in forming organizational culture, they bring to an organization their skills, expertise, and experience which help to also decide how members behave toward one another and perform their jobs. Entrepreneurs are people who start up their own business alone and are usually the organizations top managers as well as the company’s founder. They will typically act as top manager until the company starts to grow or becomes more profitable and their personal characteristics play an important role in developing organizational culture. Managers establish and mold organizational culture through the kinds of values and norms they promote in an organization.
