Explain what is meant by diversity Diversity literally means difference. Diversity recognizes that though people have things in common with each other, they are also different and unique in many ways. Diversity is about recognizing and valuing those differences. Diversity therefore consists of visible and non-visible factors, which include personal characteristics such as background, culture, personality and work-style in addition to the characteristics that are protected under discrimination legislation in terms of race, disability, gender, religion and belief, sexual orientation and age. By recognising and understanding our individual differences and embracing them, and moving beyond simple tolerance, we can create a productive environment in which everybody feels valued. A good example to understand the concept of “diversity “is the one with the apples: “All apples are red” which thinking logically is a non-true proposition. I even can say “All apples are good to eat”. Maybe this proposition is more close to the true sense of the diversity concept but in reality is also a false affirmation. Truly, I can believe that “All fresh and tasty apples are good to eat, without of specification of size and colors. I wander Eve when she pick the knowledge fruit from God garden, what believes she has to do it!? It still remains a mister but we all know that she was tempted by evil. That aspect explains that are so many ways in which people differ from each other including for example: appearance, race (I remember an video clip song with Michael Jackson – Black or White), culture, ability, talent, beliefs.
