These assessments help support their student’s academic achievement and language proficiency. The data taken from the standardized tests is used to help determine student’s percentile score. There are also informal assessments which are combined into two distinctive types of categories: structured and unstructured. Structured consists of helping students improve in writing skills by utilizing a journal from beginning to the end of the school year. Frank Smith, (2004), argues that teachers should model collaboration for their students by participating with them in writing skills for brainstorming, composing, and editing.
I do believe that for a student to have the most effective experience, a teacher or counselor would work out best in administering the assessment. I think this because education professionals know how to work with students, they can provide added detail and answer questions, and can be a vital part in the process of career decision making. The Harrington-O’Shea CDM has 2 level booklets. Level 1 was created for middle
Unit one also taught me to reevaluate how important certain priorities when it came to writing. I learned from the other unit one authors, Joseph M. Williams and James E. Porter, that when an essay is read by someone who is looking for grammatical error or plagiarism instead of content, they will often find the error and ignore the content. Although I do still know the importance of grammar and originality, this class and the grading style has let me put those constructs in the back seat until the editing process, instead of making them something I had to constantly worry about. I don’t believe that good writing revolves around grammar, but rather how well your words can convey a message to the intended audiences.
The middle school students increased their abilities to locate main ideas when challenged with exercises in the lesson cycle. The lesson cycle was effective because it gave students practice with text structures, signal words, and graphic organizers (Montelongo, Herter, Ansaldo, & Hatter, 2010). The students also confirmed their comprehension through the correct rewriting of the given text. The authors conclude the study by acknowledging that further study is needed in order to evaluate the quality of expository writing and its effectiveness on comprehension. They further recognize that this study was limited to the specific use of main idea placement in either the first or last

Task Three Your manager is very impressed with your writing skills and has asked you to produce an information pack for the setting. Your pack should contain information about the historical context of learning disability including the following: 3.1 An explanation of the types of services that have been provided for individuals with learning disabilities over time. 3.2 A description of how past ways of working may affect present services. 3.3 An identification of some of the key changes in the following areas of the lives of individuals who have
I did not realize how easy it is to unintentionally use bias language. Specifically, careless use of pronouns, subject-verb agreement, using open-ended age definitions, or how the order of presentation of groups can show superiority over others is all examples of errors I commit in my writing. Chapter 3 of the APA Manual will serve as a useful resource not only throughout my career, and for future writing I undertake. It provides a clear explanation of the essential components of sound expository writing and I walk away with more attention, and to pay careful attention to in my future
If applicable, students have demonstrated applicability to the work setting (theory into practice). Students show evidence of critical thinking. This assessment is good in determining the content areas that in need for more attention for each student. This assessment covers the content areas of Math, reading, writing, and listening. But I did tell them the amount of freedom would depend on both of us. I had to give them a chance and they could not abuse that chance. We gave it a three-day trial before we would discuss what had happened. I must say overall my students showed they could be trusted with “when they could use the restroom” and when they needed to sharpen their pencils” but a couple students did try to abuse it. It was a pleasant surprise to know I can trust them with such tasks that often frustrate me when students keep asking the same question over and over.
