Cheerleading: Definitely a Sport There are so many things that go into the sport of cheerleading. Yes, I said sport. Most people don’t consider cheerleading a sport. It takes more than a ponytail to whip around, a loud voice, and a dumbfounded look on your face to be a cheerleader. It requires drive, focus, the ability to work as a team, physical strength, but more importantly mental strength.

Sports recently have shown none equality since the beginning of their popularity. Some people believe cheerleading is a sport for multiple reasons. One reason is that cheerleaders compete against the other team just like in any other sport.
Cheerleading Cheerleading is a very popular sport among girls. Some may think that it is not a sport and think that there is nothing to it. However, cheerleading is actually one of the most dangerous sports for girls. Cheerleading is not just standing on the sidelines cheering on the football team anymore; they do complicated stunts and throw each other in the air. Because of these stunts, it increases the risk for possible injury.

Cheerleaders, just like participants in every other sport, attend camps, practice multiple times, risk injury, and face competition. It is time for cheerleaders to get the respect and recognition they deserve, instead of the stereotyping and ridicule they receive. During those last weeks of summer when all the sports teams are off at camp, one might assume that cheerleaders are just working on their tan. However, this could not be further from the truth.

Cheerleading is a sport Introduction Is cheerleading considered a sport? It’s a very huge debate among most athletes and people outside of athletic programs. While most sports only have one season, cheerleaders have two; football and basketball. We have the same requirements as other sports; cross country we run, like soccer we kick, and like track and field we run. We also have to go through tryouts and injuries.
The Battle of Sports As a female, we only have a few sports to play without them being a co-ed sport. When asking people is cheerleading or color guard a sport; many people said no it isn’t only because the sport isn’t aggressive or a competitive sport. When comparing and contrasting color guard and cheerleading one will find out they are two very different sports. Although cheerleading and color guard are considered sports, the criteria of the sports differ. Contrasting the sports, cheerleading is the number one sport with the most causes of death and injuries.

These two factors could have been the proof the Federal Court used in order to call cheerleading just an activity instead of a sport, even though it in a matter of fact meets all criteria. These two factors cannot be controlled by the coach though. For some schools the only reason they cannot compete is due to the lack of school funding because cheerleading is not considered a sport the school does not think they should have to fund it. Sport, an activity that involves physical activity and skill in which an individual or team compete against another individual or another team. In order for something to be a sport it must fall under this category, so why isn't cheer leading a sport and who gets to define whether it should be a sport or not? Cheer leading doesn't just involve a bunch of girls trying to look pretty in mini skirts. Male cheerleaders are also included and the sport was in fact founded and started by males. Now cheerleaders don't have to get all down and dirty either because they have to look good while competing.
