Abraham Lincoln Assassination Abraham Lincoln, or as others called him, “Honest Abe” and “Illinois Rail-Splitter” was most famous for guiding the country during the American Civil War. His leadership helped the north stay strong and defeat the South, keeping the country together. He also pushed for the freedom of all slaves throughout the nation. Abraham Lincoln came from simple beginnings. He was born in a single-room log cabin in Hardin County, Kentucky. His parents were Thomas and Nancy Hanks Lincoln. His father had lost many things when Abraham was young and they had to move to Peary County, Indiana where they had a hard time to get by. He never backed out even when some of his people weren’t ready, he got threatened to get assassinated, cabinet members were arguing, and many of his soldiers had died. However, Lincoln continued to be brave for our nation. He never felt pressured to just surrender. He had continued fighting until the Confederacy was defeated. Lincoln had never given up, not without getting what he wanted done in the begginning. For a portion of the Civil War, Lincoln served as a commander in chief and chief of staff. This was because when the Civil War began, the USA was not organized. Lincoln played a huge role us strategic thinking for the nations army, despite his lack of knowledge on most things in the military field. Most people underestimated Lincoln since he had such a kind heart. They thought he wouldn’t be capable for this type of position, but they soon found out they were wrong. Today, Lincoln is remembered for his small speech he gave the Gettysburg. It’s called the Gettysburg Address. It was short and not to long but yet considered one of the most important speeches in American history. The Gettysburg Address is mainly about how all men should be equal, as it says in the Declaration of Independence of the United States.
