What I Am Going To Do To Become A Better Leader Christina Taylor Bethel University MOD340, Leadership Bob Brooks 1/22/2013 Throughout the five weeks of leadership, I have taken many assessments of myself. The first assessment was my social motives where I scored a fourteen in the power column, a twenty-seven in the achievement, and extremely high thirty-one in affiliation. My score in power shows that I do not like using the authority that power gives. My score in the achievement column shows that I like planning, creating, and building to achieve goals. Finally, the affiliation column proves that I have a strong concern for the welfare of humans. Yes, I love caring about other people. My second assessment was assessing my leader-member exchange in which I was assessing the relationship between me and my manager. This assessment evaluated the mutual affection, loyalty, contribution to work activities, and professional respect. I scored a fifteen equally throughout each section. My overall score was a sixty really showing that my manager and I work well together in any situation. My next assessment that I enjoyed doing was the assessing of my leadership style. I enjoyed this one because I learned that I am very participative. With this leadership style, I present a problem, ask for my team’s ideas, and make final decisions based on the ideas present to me from my team. However, I learned with this assessment that I can be free-rein in my workplace. In being free-rein, my team has just as much freedom as I do being their leader. Being free-rein only works well if you are in a warehouse environment. I was glad to know that I did not want to be the only one making decision. My final assessment was my EI assessment, which is my favorite assessment because it scores me on the five components of my Emotional Intelligence at my job.
