What does the flag mean to me? The flag to me has many meanings. Throughout the time I have been alive the American flag has been through a few historical moments. The most memorable moment would have been September 11, 2001 when the World Trade Towers were destroyed. In my own opinion the flag is a symbol of freedom and the right to be who I want to be. Growing up and learning the Pledge of Allegiance in school is also one of the most memorable moments of the flag I have. Eleven years ago the World Trade Center was destroyed by terrorists. I remember being in school that day and not really understanding what was going on. I was in the first or the second grade and the entire school went outside and stood in front of the flag and Pledge our Allegiance to the flag for the lost lives that day. I remember watching a video of the World Trade Center in the seventh grade and actually understanding what really happened and how it changed our country. I felt despair and sorrow for something that happened six or seven years ago, and then learned that the flag from the World Trade Center survived the terrorist attacks. This then became a symbol of sacrifice in service, loss, and determination. In turn making me proud to be an American who can say I was a part of American history even though it wasn’t one of the countries brightest hours. September 11, 2001 will always be the most memorable moment in my life. It changed the way I view the flag and what it means to me. A life changing day for me was life changing for this country and its people and nothing will ever change that. I proudly Pledge Allegiance to the flag and nothing will ever change that so long as we are united. The flag is a symbol of my life and freedom and hope for true peace and
