Many historical research and writings have been done by different historians by the help of primary and secondary sources of information and these have helped them to go back to the past events and prove their existence. This assignment is meant to give an understanding of the terms primary and secondary sources of History. The assignment will further explain how these sources of History helped in solving the Zimbabwean debate. In the assignment key terms will first be defined and then the main discussion will be drawn and finally the conclusion to sum up the content. ‘Primary sources are those that provide data gathered at first hand, and complied by the same authority under which data was collected from the field’1. They consist of the first-hand information, original documents or the eye witness report, or picture diaries and census report. For example a diary. Secondary sources are any other source that is not original but derived from primary source, for example a book2. A debate is a discussion with two or more people and it usually involve an argument or prolonged discussion. Therefore, the Zimbabwean debate was the exclusive historical discussion about the great Zimbabwe stone building. Not forgetting that history is the study of the past in order to understand the present and project the future. Primary and secondary sources of history worked hand to hand in explaining who build Zimbabwe and the debate was solved through these sources of history; hence they are good or important history data to use in to know what was happening some time back in our country and world as a whole.
