ENVIRONMENTAL SANITATION WHAT CAN I DO TO BE GREENER? “Global warming could wipe out a quarter of all animal species on Earth by 2050”. (Ladle et al, 2004). What can do humans with a reality not so far away? Every day the earth gives us enough to survive as oxygen, water and raw materials to create products and satisfy the needs of each person. But what is the population doing in gratitude to the earth? ... Only generate waste and more consumerism. So the objectives of the following essay are clear and compelling because it proposes ideas on how to help the earth, seeing it from two different perspectives. "Going green” doesn’t mean making big changes or it would represent a high cost of money. Simple things can make a difference, this is the first view that the author would like to mention. And the second point of view is in industrial area, as a chemical engineer performing his duties to avoid or reduce environmental pollution. In the first perspective the author proposes simple and inexpensive ideas; it would benefit many families and also would be great for the planet, it consists in making a plan for saving energy in every home. The first thing you should do is to make a list of all appliances, find the power measured in (kw), as long as it is used and calculate the power, then with this result can get the price of all the appliances and this would mean a huge cost savings per year. There are other simple solutions as changing regular light bulbs by energy saving light bulbs, batteries recycling, avoid aerosols use, unplugging unused appliances and taking quick showers. The role of chemical engineers in the industry is critical at designing processes, which involved raw materials, equipment, operations and various chemicals, which in one way or another generate pollution. So the duty of chemical engineers to help the environment is to improve the quality
