What Are Edgar Allan Poe's Accomplishments

Edgar Allan Poe was a renown poet of the nineteenth century whose life was full of unfortunate events that jaded his writings. Edgar was born to the Poe family in 1809, however his original parents had either abandoned him or were dead by the time he was three. He was then adopted by John Allen, who moved around frequently due to his job as a merchant. Poe moved around a variety of schools, finally going to the University of Virgina in 1826. It was during this point in time that Poe and Allan had a falling out due to Poe’s debt. Unfortunately, he wasn’t able to continue his education there due to a growing debt, so he went into the military to help pay for his debts. Poe then tried to live off of writing alone, which was extremely difficult to do at that point in time. Over time he married his 13 year old cousin, Virginia Clemm, and went through a variety of jobs such as writing and editing for newspapers of the time, while still doing his own poetry. He released his third and fourth books during this time, The narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym of Nantucket, and Tales of the Grotesque and Arabesque, which received varied reviews and small success. Over time, Virginia died of tuberculosis, and Poes poetry took a much darker turn. It was during this point in time that Poe wrote poetry such as The Raven, which made Poe extremely popular and was reprinted in several newspapers. Poe continued writing darker poetry until 1849, when he was found on the streets of Baltimore by Joseph Walker, who took him to the hospital per poes request. Unfortunately, we do not know what killed Poe, but we do know that he died four days after he was admitted to the hospital.
