What Friendship Truly is. Once in your life, you will meet someone who changes your world for the better. You can meet this person anytime, anywhere. What you have to do is recognize their worth and pour yourself into building the rewarding bond called friendship. Becoming best friends with Jessica Crisp is the most life -enriching decision I have made thus far. I gained a friend that changed my world. At such a young age, I began to experience not only a world of newfound freedom, but also a friendship bound by promise and loyalty. Our friendship was not like any I had ever known. The best decision I ever made was to enter into a friendship with Jessica. Jessica did something that no one in my life had attempted to do before; use my disability as an element of enriching our bond in friendship, rather than limit it. The day she came to me without the slightest hesitation and eagerly asked if she could help lift me without the aid of my mom, was astonishing that she had asked so openly Other friends had shied away and never inquired about that particular aspect of my life, let alone ask to help me physically. After the shock value of the question wore off, I happily accepted her offer. As she was assisting me, I immediately felt a surplus of positive emotions, recognizing my life was clearly changing and she was in my life for many reasons. Being able to experience independence on a level that I never thought possible, was an indescribable feeling; knowing that adults no longer were a necessity to experience a social life. I felt “normal”, like everyone else. Jessica gave me the feeling of not just independence, but a feeling that my disability did not dictate how we spent our time together like in previous friendships with others. With Jessica, my disability seemed as if it had somehow vanished and was not going to hinder anything we did. In our
