Nowadays the traditional festivals are not the signals of the culture and history anymore. There become the tools of the business people who do not have conscience. For New Year, many people chose to go outside to have the New Year eve dinner, and they do not make dumplings any longer. When they go outside, the business people tried to names their dishes with beautiful implied meanings, and then raise the price to earn more money. In the mid-autumn festival, the moon cake became a fancy gift but not a little cake that use for remembering relatives who are far away from the family.
One of the reasons we should serve turkey is because a lot of turkey is made every thanksgiving and letting it go to waste would be a sin itself. If you won’t eat it, someone else will. Another reason to eat turkey on Thanksgiving is because it is simply a tradition, maybe not to all, but to my family it is; and it isn’t thanks giving without it. The third and final reason we should be allowed to eat turkey on Thanksgiving

“How old are you, like 12! How did you get in here?” The club caters exclusively to the 21 and older crowd. “My uncle would always have me around the club. I would just watch and admire those on the stage jamming to the music.” She said her childhood was not that of normal child. In lieu of weekend slumber parties, she would be singing in her uncle’s night club for as she put it, “old perves who reeked of cigar smoke and cheap cologne.” She started off singing for a couple of the bands without vocalist, then tried her hand a playing the saxophone.
Since it’s hard to trust anybody this day and age why not help out by volunteering at a local soap kitchen and help feed, homeless people, who have nothing to eat? Singer writes “we ought to do things that, predictably, most of us won’t do” (375) For example, every other year my family and I vacation to Guadalajara, Jalisco to visit family for the holidays. One year my dad went to a palenque (which is like a brothel for roosters), and there was a group of kids asking for spare change for food. My dad took them aside and he said ,“I am not going to give you a dime because I won’t really know if you are going to use it for food like you say you are.” The kids start to talk amongst them selves as they walk away, and before they know it my dad had them all sit down, and he bought them all food. Every kid in that group got the opportunity to have a hot
These are just some of the many traditions that my family hold, but one that we do not is the location of Thanksgiving dinner. Some years we go to Lake Geneva with my mom’s family, and other years to the Misericordia home with my father’s side of the family. There seems to be no rhyme or reason to where we sit down with family for Thanksgiving dinner (it does not switch families every year, or is it held in the same place for each side of the family).
Janet is not trying to connect different cultures, unlike Mr. Suarez from the Taste Buds Café, who uses differentiation in his food to accommodate and merge different cultures; “I tried to introduced some Spanish food because I‘m Spanish, Italian, Greek and of course the traditional breakfast and roast dinners with all the roast dinners and Sunday lunches and everything. But we sell pastas as well and moussakas and curries.” (‘Making social lives on City Road’, 2009, scene 3) Mr. Suarez has created a melting pot of communities in a safe, welcoming, non-exclusive environment. From these examples, the inequality lies within the fact that, through consumerism, Janet’s shop causes a division between any cultures apart from her own; she reconsolidates some identities whilst marginalizing
Not many people notice that when they enter a different community they change the way they act completely! Due to the differences of the American and the Colombian cultures the way I talk with one and the way I act with the other is completely different from each other. My family is 100% Colombian, no mix no nothing. If you join us while we are watching TV or eating you will not understand a word we are saying, it’s as if I join a family from Korea or china while they dine. My culture is very respectful, and very humble.
Thanksgiving Thanksgiving day, it is a special event. Usually it is turkey, potato salad, dinner with family, lots of fun, everyone is happy. But, in general, this event was created to say thanks for everything. In my life, there were a lot of things about that I am thankful. However in my country we don’t have Thanksgiving Day at all!
First of all, there were my little eyes that not only I had, but my brother and mother as well. For the longest time I just thought that was the Hispanic side, but on my birthday I found out that it wasn’t. I actually had a piece of Korean in my blood. It changed my whole aspect because I would always hear stories about my grandfather, but not too much about his family. Now I knew there could be aunts and uncles in Korean that we probably knew nothing about.
