If we go back 10 years and I think about how websites used to look like we’d be pretty amazed. The types of content found on websites today are countless compared to earlier ones. Sites like apple.com and yahoo.com were so simple, they only included some text, links, and one or two images. Earlier websites were mainly static, which means if they wanted any types of changes on it, it would have to hardcoded if they wanted to update their page. HTML was the first type of language used for web development. The simplicity of HTML has not changed as much as you would think so since the early 90s, but there it has been standardized since then.
When web development started, there were 2 main Internet browsers that dominated the scene, Netscape and Internet Explorer. These two browsers were head to head trying to compete with one another in being able to maximize their capabilities and win more people over.   Since Windows already came with Internet Explorer in all OS packages, it was inevitable that IE wont that war. It became apparent that the inexperience and laziness of some web authors was causing poor HTML code to be used. The W3C eventually implemented several standards are rules to keep HTML uniform. Today there are more languages and scripts used such as XHTML, XML, Flash, JavaScript, PHP, plug-ins, and Cold Fusion. These powerful languages optimize user experience and keep them engaged. They not only provide the information the user seeks, but also might lead them to explore other parts of the site.
The type of content you may find on a website may be text, images, sounds, videos, interactive elements, or forms. The type of content that is used in web development, depends on the type of website it is. When you browse mtv.com’s website, the most noticeable links are music, shows, news, and movies.
