Racism has been in our society for many years. It has greatly affected the way we live our life and the way we treat others. However negative, racism has shaped America in a positive way. The way things happened had a certain order. First it was racism then that went to racial tolerance, to acceptance, and now unity.
Olivia Brice English 101 Ms. Hesse Racism Today People believe that racism is defined as the belief that there are characteristically and biologically different traits in the ‘human racial groups’ that justify discrimination. In Appiah’s essay he expresses how race is not a biologically different thing, but is instead a social concept or idea. Racism is what people call this social idea about race, and how it makes people differ from one another. At one point in history racism was very distinct and easy to spot, but by looking at an article from recent years we can see that racism still exists but is hidden and overlooked and that people are not considered to be racist, although they are. So what does it mean to be racist today?
Inevitably this discrimination also involved much more than just indifference of colour, blacks experienced poor working conditions violent retaliation and even lynching if the status quo of white supremacy was to be challenged. In search of better conditions, four leading African-Americans offered some solution’s to deal with the situation. Booker T. Washington, du bois, Marcus Garvey and Phillip Randall all contributed to giving the black community a voice in America. There different roles will be compared contrasted and assessed in their part to play in overcoming these challenges. Firstly Booker T. Washington, he was a Black educator who focused on practical education which would lead to black social advancement.
Individuals have also made good arguments about the negative outcome that racial profiling might bring to our society. Obviously it has led the dominant race to have superiority to the minorities – racial discrimination. James Zogby, the president of the Arab-American Institute have made a point that he have seen a lot of dark skinned people being searched and treated with humiliation, which is really wrong – Racial Relations. David Harris, a writer and Professor at Toledo College, have already written a couple of books about racial profiling. He states that law enforcers think that they would be more accurate in targeting a suspicious group, but in reality, what happens is the total opposite wherein officials have inaccurate results in targeting the suspect—Race Relations.

Today’s society; you may say all you want about it being better than what is was like in the 1900’s to now but how much better is it really? Yes we have found many cures for severe illnesses and are now aware of Global Warming, which we are doing our best to prevent with renewable energy, but has anyone ever thought of the way people act throughout society? Have ways changed?
There has been many short falls on many counts, and the fight for quality is far from over for the African Americans. They will struggle to achieve anything that they want to endure in their lives. This will profoundly changed people’s attitudes of Americans and at least make it possibility for Civil Right Movement gets better as time goes
Formally, racial categories appeared to be biological which contrast with the view of the current generation that impact the social status of the society. The ethical race connections that exist among people appear to be mutually exclusive. However, the situation may be overlapping without notice. This brings in the idea of invisibility of race within the community. People tend to assume the existence of race as an inferior fact yet it exists as a major problem within the community.
With the changing of culture and passing of time, the fallout that was (and sometimes still is) hardest to cope with in the United States was racism. As time progressed and things would move from more primitive to more sophisticated design and ideas, slavery did the same. Slavery my have just been the most primitive form of racism, and as it was abolished the idea of another race being subordinate to another didn’t seem to dissipate. Instead it would seem that the “abolitionist movement” became the “civil rights movement”. Instead of the government allowing slavery, it looked like it found a loop hole to not treat people of color equally for anything whether it was sports, school or public facilities blacks were still treated as inferior.
Why or why not? Racism is institutionalized. Education is needed to tolerate stereotypes and its everyday pain. As the people of America wonder, when will segregation, prejudice, and stereotypes finally come to an end? Regardless of the accomplishments some of the great leaders this country has ever seen, through the black power movement by Malcolm X, the fight to end segregation by Dr .Martin Luther king and etc.
I have the same opinion that racism still is present in the United States due to the fact that many races discuss other races, and at the largest part of the time, it is not good. The use of credit history to panel potential employees, which is still a common practice, can have a top-heavy blow on minorities. Although a number of states are creating things to limit discrimination against the unemployed and those with poor credit, we have a extensive way to go prior to these actions being done away with. With the intense lack of correspondence in seizures and imprisonment rates among the ethnicities, some have recognized that using convictions and arrest to prohibit people from service may have a contrasting bang on minorities. On the other hand, a large amount of states currently permit unlawful accounts to be utilized to reject experienced candidates.
