Odysseous did not collapse into temptaion and begin killing of his suitors, instead he his in disguise and waiting for the right moment, Odysseous also defied temptaion when he did not reveal himself to the people around him, instead waited it out. Temptation is not the only thing to obstruct our expedition. We all face obstacles, like Odysseous. A common obstacle we face is when we find someone we cannot compare to or get along with. A good example of this is when Odysseous had to evade the Cyclpos.
We can keep our assumptions to ourselves but unless we consider all aspects of the situation we are not thinking critically. It is also important to recognize when you have made an assumption and attempt to rid yourself of the assumption, keeping it there will only make matters more difficult. • Fallacies are a mistaken belief, especially one based on an unsound argument. Fallacies in written arguments generally come from some type of news source: Biased material that tries people to believe something though it may just be for their gain. Fallacies in oral arguments are similar to written arguments.
If reality is inevitable, and there is nothing one can do to stop it, change it, alter it, or make it happen, one may want to distance them self or even ignore the possibilities of inevitable events. This only hurts people in the long run because not only did the inevitable happen, but the reality of the inevitable and the occurrence can cause people even more doom and burthen rather than them preparing and adapting and accepting inevitable events. There is an idea of shame when one thinks of “burthen….forever on a man’s shoulder.” Shame
In my own opinion this causes many issues which can lead people to do immoral things and commit bad crimes, and be able to justify their actions by stating it was already determined for them to do it. With this idea you can’t be praised for doing good things or punished for doing bad as we did not choose to preform or commit these actions. Ted Honderich was a hard determinist and said all our choices, intentions and our actions are nothing more than effects from other past events that have already happened. David Hume would criticise this he argues against hard determinism and says we do have free will and moral responsibility, we are responsible for all our moral and non-moral actions regardless of whether they could have been determined by our past choices or values. John Hospers also thought all things were determined.
The net effect of what occupies our minds-and often comes out of our mouths-will be as pure or as corrupt as whatever we let enter our minds. We jeopardize our mental health when we subject our thinking to mental trash. To remain psychologically stable, we must discipline our minds to avoid thinking in the gutter. If these traits are dominant in our personality, we are less likely to suffer from mental aberrations. Such a mind will be self-controlled; it will be stable and able to endure the difficulties of life.
In some instances, defense mechanisms are thought to keep inappropriate or unwanted thoughts and impulses from entering the conscious mind. For example, if you are faced with a particularly unpleasant task, your mind may choose to forget your responsibility in order to avoid the dreaded assignment. In addition to forgetting, other defense mechanisms include denial, repression and projection. In denial, is one of the best known defense mechanisms, used often to describe situations in which people seem unable to face reality or admit an obvious truth? Denial is an outright refusal to admit or recognize that something has occurred or is currently occurring.
For example, Natasha shows her action to modify her fate by stating, “I will tell you why as best I can. My soul knows no rest, day and night I weep; an evil dream oppresses me” (Pushkin 61). This shows how Natasha arranges to tell her story in an intelligent way to the people and the bridegroom; if she had chose to accuse the bridegroom without saying what she said, people wouldn't have listened to her as carefully as they would have. Also, because Natasha decided to change her fate with a good choice, this allowed her to live and not be killed by the bridegroom. In addition, because of Natasha’s attempt to control her destiny, the evil bride groom is “…bound, judged, put to death.
Think of the room full of dreamers which Cobb and team come across in Mombasa, who yearn so desperately for the fantasy world that it has become their ‘real’ world. Actual reality is the nightmare they want to escape. More central to the film even than this is Mal who yearned so badly for the fantasy that she refused to believe real life was not a dream and killed herself in order to return to this reality which never existed other than in her shared unconscious with Cobb. Cobb too is tempted by the fantasy to return to a life with his wife which can exist only in his dreams. The film charts the emergence of his psychological maturity in which he is able to recognize it for what it is.
Prejudging Can Lead To A Disaster In the movie Hitch, Alex Hitchens (Will Smith) makes a statement, "She may not want the whole truth, but she wants the real you, she may not want to see it all at once" (Mordaunt, 2005). Although there may be some truth to this statement, the real truth is never to mislead a person's emotions. This belief that he has, lead him to be in a conflicting situation to where his self-disclosure was prejudged by his actions without creditable evidence of the truth. Because of his non-verbal actions Sarah's feeling were hurt, the truth was misconstrued and the whole situation was blown out of proportion. The speed dating scene exhibited a few concepts of conflict regarding interpersonal communication.
As such, people wake up afraid to expect the best and prepare for the worse. Do you see that this is still the Law of Attraction working? By THINKING that the worse will happen, people are bringing about problems to themselves. So kick the habit! Do expect the best and the best will happen to you.
