Wave Power Essay

Wave power is power obtained by maintaining the energy created by waves at sea. Electricity generators are placed on the surface of the ocean. The vertical motion of the waves moves part of the generator in an up and down motion causing the ratchet type device to create electricity (there are different ways of collecting wave energy). The energy created is used in desalination plants, power plants, and water pumps. The rate or amount of energy produced is determined by wave height, speed, length, and water density. Stronger waves tend to produce more power. The produced energy is captured in the EM spectrum, and used for numerous things pertaining to electricity generation, powering plants, and pumping water. It is very difficult to get energy produced by waves, because of the fact that there are very little wave generating plants around the world. The need for this way of getting electricity is greatly needed for the concerns of populations growing at accelerating rates. As all ideas have there are the good and bad effects. The pros of using wave power is this energy source being renewable, having a great amount of energy potential, reliable, area efficient, and being an offshore wave power. For the fact that wave power comes from heat energy emitted from the sun, the energy will take a long time to disappear. Reliability come from waves hardly ever being interrupted and almost always being in motion. It doesn’t take up that much of a space to set up a wave generator, (.5 square miles) makes it very area efficient. As of consequences, it has its environmental effects and it’s very costly. Costal installations can effect tourism, for the coastal facilities have to meet high restrictions of size and the location. Cost wise, because wave power is in early stages of development, the cost of this project would be harder. Connections ti the power grid and the lifespan of
