Warm Delights Company Assessment Betty Crocker is a brand that is marketed by General Mills, one of the largest food companies in the world. General Mills market some of the world’s best loved brands including Betty Crocker, Häagen-Dazs, Pillsbury, Green Giant, Lucky Charms, Cheerios and many more. Betty Crocker was formed in 1921. It began during a promotion for Gold Metal Flour where the customers were rewarded with a pin cushion that looked like a flour sack. Through this promotion, The Washburn Crosby Company, which was a predecessor of General Mills, had gotten flooded with questions about baking. The company would in turn send responses with the signature “Betty Crocker”. They did so just to personalize those inquiries. They chose the signature “Betty Crocker” to pay homage to one of their popular and recently retired at the time director of the company, William G. Crocker. They just used Betty instead of William, because it was a friendlier sounding name. Though the name Betty Crocker was generated in 1921, it wasn’t personalized until 1936. A New York artist by the name of Neysa McMein was commissioned to draw the first Betty Crocker portrait. The portrait has been updated seven times over the past eight decades (1955, 1965, 1969, 1972, 1980, 1986 and 1996). All these eight portraits picture her wearing a red dress, jacket or sweater with white at her neck. The drawing has changed in order to reflect the changing faces of American woman. Warm delights came about when A. Vision/Mission Statement General Mills’ slogan is “Nourishing Lives.” They use a value statement rather than a mission statement.
