Write about War Photographer, which, in your opinion, is very effective in highlighting important social issues. Explain what these issues are, and examine and discuss the various ways in which the poet conveys them. War Photographer by Carol Ann Duffy renders social issues that are caused by war powerfully. The poet highlights the suffering of the innocent civilians who gets involved in the destruction and bloodshed which results from war, how desensitised people are who lives in totally different world and how war photographers like persona in the poem gets affected by the war. The first social issue that the poet states is the suffering of the people who live in that area getting involved inevitably in the devastation and bloodshed from war. This is evident from the last two lines of stanza 2, “fields which don’t explode beneath the feet / of running children in a nightmare heat.” and in stanza 3, “ the cries of this man’s wife”. These shows that land mines actually harm not only the solders but also the children who are not involved in war at all. The image that it portrays is shocking and terrifying. The word, “nightmare” which also means fear and terror displays the horror of war. In addition, in stanza 3, it gives a picture of a grieving woman crying before dead husband. She has to live on her own without her husband in dangerously without proper protection. It is hard to survive being widowed. Even in safe environment, it is hard to live being alone. However, she is widowed in the war zone and she would be suffering a lot, being the victim of war. The persona takes picture of her and her dead husband and this shows the harsh reality being in the war zone. She renders the pains that the victims of war goes through one single photograph. The second social issue that the poet points out is the desensitisation of the people who live in areas where war
