War is a horrendous and terrifying event that occurs every day in different places around the globe. It’s caused by religious differences and arguments, political and communal decisions or opinions and cultural and social dislikes. Although war can seem easy and simple to escape from, the reality is that war is all around us whether it be physically violent and widespread throughout an area or country or verbally violent and small throughout a suburb or town. War is almost a way of life to some people such as through the eyes of soldiers or leaders involved with it, to the hysterical and life-changing effects it brings upon families, friends and loved ones. The Rug-maker of Mazar-e-Sharif gives a clear example of this as it shows and explains how from one side of the earth in Afghanistan then the horrible journey by boat to Australia to find refuge and safety from poverty, sickness but most of all, war.
These were army and police men and were sent to fight the IRA and reduce the chances of the civilians of Ireland retaliating. It was evident that he may have not made the right decision by sending in the Black and Tans as they were a brutal force who used severe violence against the people, ‘murder for murder’ was their policy. This overall shows an unsuccessful attempt from David Lloyd George and the British Government in dealing with the Irish question as it was later shown that the small war had left 750 dead and over 850 wounded. Despite this failure, David Lloyd George soon realised that the tactic of using violence was not bringing him success and he soon knew that his only choice was to enforce peace. Not only did the British people not want many thousands of men going to war with the Irish, the press and the USA were horrified by the situation and it was giving Britain and DLG a bad name.
Source C is a speech by the leader of the Irish Nationalists John Redmond. Source C says " the idea of two nations in Ireland is revolting and hateful" From this we are able to see the extremist view he has and his strong views towards the exclusion of ulster from the home rule bill. Redmond wanted the whole of Ireland independent, we know this from when the source says " The proposed exclusion of Ulster would mean the disintegration of our nation for all time" by this Redmond is saying that by separating ireland it would make them beyond repair and would cause them to crumble. Therefore Source C is showing the extremist view of the Irish Nationalists. Redmond had been fighting for the home rule bill to be passed.
Able to achieve their desired purpose by eventually breaking through to the south and east, Americans were able to threaten to encircle German forces in Normandy from behind. However, this came at a great price of innocent civilians’ and soldiers’ lives. This ultimately resulted in the destruction of Caen due to bombing and fighting, and great casualties were a major result of this intense combat. Much of the destruction and death on Caen could have been prevented if the Allies had ultimately been more careful with following through orders, and had they taken more precaution in bombing the entire city, many civilians wouldn’t have had to pay the price. In conclusion, the Battle of Caen should be remembered for the great efforts of the Allied forces in preventing German expansion, however many should be informed on the opposing side in which the Allied forces created a great deal of the tragedy due to negligence, rage, and severe
Millions of people are involved in armed conflicts in the world today. Many of these conflicts occur in highly populated, poorer nations, which contain unique biodiversity. War destroys homes and infrastructures, while creating social problems and the displacement of people. Still, people are losing their friends, families, lovers. I know I do not feel loneliness like those people who send their families or lovers to war and lose their kids; I know I do not have the right to say it is just a war; I know that I have no right to feel
This war was also considered inconvenient at that time. Also it corrupted almost every soldier’s mental state; because their families have claimed they have never been the same since. The current Iraq war follows similar guidelines. President Bush started the same problem with our soldiers but instead of it being the swamplands he invaded the desert lands of Iraq. Also he brought the idea of terrorism which is not worth fighting for.
The extent to which each country would go, also known as brinkmanship, was shown and scared everyone as mutually assured destruction was the policy of both countries. The USA also involved itself in the Vietnam War, which caused large death tolls and massive protests, with a third of Americans believing entering the war was a mistake (Vietnam War). Eventually the Cold War would die down, but not before taking millions of lives and ruining other countries, not just
When I hear the word war, the things that first come out in my mind were destructions, deaths, famine, guns and terrors. If we are going to look back in our history, a lot of wars had happened. One of those was “the bombing of Pearl Harbor drew ire of the people of the United States. The bombing was regarded as treacherous, and it was just a matter of time that the Americans would declare war against Japan.” (Muhi and Maguigad 169) The US – Japan war was one of the most known destructive wars. It greatly affects the life of the Japanese and the other nationalist because the missile that was launched emits radiation which affects lots of people.
There are a number of different causes of war and conflict, the main ones are; - Politics; Different political parties have different thoughts and opinions on things. Sometimes this opinions clash with each other and it causes conflict. Border disputes and disputes over territory can all cause war as people want to fight for their land. An example of conflict that started because of this is the conflict between India and Pakistan over Kashmir. NATO can also cause countries to go into war because if one of the NATO countries gets invaded, it is seen as though all of the countries are involved; this is what started the Second World War.
It was like everyone wanted power. And we all know that everyone can’t be on top. Imperialism led to WW1 because their were fewer areas of the world left to colonize, so countries were competing for existing colonies, and seeking to expand their borders with neighboring nations. And when you compete for land or anything their will only be one victor causing the loser to be mad. Lastly the “spark” of World War I is the assassination of Franz Ferdinand and his wife by the Serbian Black Hand terrorists in Sarajevo on June 28, 1914.
