The strategy in which a firm decides to adopt is important as it can help explain an individual firms success or failure in obtaining or sustaining competitive advantage. In Porter’s view an industries overall competitiveness and profitability are attributed to five different forces (Porter, 1979). These are (1) Competition in the Industry (2) Potential of New Entrants (3) Power of Suppliers (4) Power of Customers and (5) Threat of substitute powers. When looking at Porter’s five forces in relation to industry analysis, we see both the analysis of a tangible situation (customers, suppliers, and competitors) and on predictive developments (new entrants and substitutes) (Recklies, 2001).
Organization and Management Issues The first issue this author will address is conflict in the workplace. More and more various types of conflict seems to be appearing within the workforce. Some conflict can be between co-workers, others between workers and management. This paper will focus primarily on co-worker conflict and how management can lead their employees into better relationships and motivate them to work towards a common goal. Organizational Culture The book describes organizational culture as the internal environment of the organizations shared beliefs and values that influence the behavior (Schermerhorn, Hunt, & Osborn, 2008). Overall the organizational culture is the setting for which organization members interact with one another. Some organizations are more competitive and create an environment where only the strong survive. This type of organization pits employee against employee in an attempt to secure their status and position in the organization (Schermerhorn, Hunt, & Osborn, 2008). The book explains this as an aggressive/defensive culture where motivation tends to be lower and work attitudes less positive (Schermerhorn, Hunt, & Osborn, 2008).
Finally, potential sources conflict within the group or work team and communication barriers will also be discussed. Examine traditional, contemporary, and emerging leadership theories and interpersonal forms of power. Create a profile of the ideal leader for the company you researched in which you describe the most appropriate leadership characteristics in terms of leadership style and interpersonal forms of power; and how these characteristics impact organizational performance. There are many different types of leadership styles from traditional, contemporary and emerging theories. According to Nelson and Quick (2013), “Leadership in organizations is the process of guiding and directing the behavior of people in the work environment” (p. 193).

Employing a team-based compensation strategy in a company will encourage employees to engage with each other, collaborate and strive towards a common goal together, which creates major business benefits. Also, team-based compensation can help a firm stay competitive within its market. Companies that outline their people as their competitive advantage need a strong compensation system to attract and retain their workforce, and employing a team-based compensation strategy will aid in this.
The success and effectiveness of a manager will result in investors in the manufacturing company or people who withdraw their investment. Investors in a capital market can view a company’s performance through earnings reports, using different ratios, and let us not forget balance sheets as well. A capital market can be a basis for income of sorts aside from merchandise. In essence, a manager can only be so effective without the means to support production in a manufacturing company. The strength or limitation of a capital market will result in the indication of how well a manufacturing company market value will be perceived.
