Wal-Mart Organizing Function of Management Management 330 February 13, 2012 The organizing function of management is bringing together financial, physical, and human resources to develop a productive relationship for achievement in organizational goals. Identifying activities, classification of grouping activities, assignment of duties, delegation of authority, and responsibility are part of the organization function of management, This paper will show how Wal-Mart utilizes their organizing function of management with physical assets, monetary, human resources, knowledge, and technology. Along with Wal-Mart’s function of management with these factors is if Wal-Mart optimized organizational resources for effectiveness and efficiency. A man named Sam Walton at the age of 44 founded Wal-Mart in 1962. The first Wal-Mart opened in Rogers, Arkansas, and on October 31, 1969 the company incorporated as Wal-Mart stores, Incorporated. Sam Walton started his retail adventure with JC Penny in 1940. He continued his retail career with Walton’s five and ten as well as Ben Franklin variety stores. In 1945 Sam became friends with Edward Butler and Walton’s became franchised. In 1983 the first Sam’s club opened and in 1988 the first Wal-Mart supercenter opened. Wal-Mart went international fort he first time in 10991 with the first location in Mexico. As of today there are 9,759 stores in 28 countries that employ 2.1 million individuals and serves 176 million customers each year (Wal-Mart, 2011). Wal-Mart’s physical assets are set up so that even in a challenging economic and competitive environment the customers and company believe that Wal-Mart has the right strategy. The biggest factor Wal-Mart looks at is keeping low prices. The low prices that Wal-Mart sets is to keep the customers happy. Competitors also at times struggle to keep up with these prices.
