Wal-Mart “Always low prices, always.” is the infamous Wal-Mart’s slogan, and ‘these everyday low prices’ that are offered are why people choose to shop there. People are always trying to find the best deal when it comes to food, and that deal can sometimes be found at Wal-Mart. However, the negative effect Wal-Mart makes on the economy does not make shopping there worth it. Wal-Mart is one of the world’s more powerful companies and with that power they control many aspects of our economy in the United States. That power negatively affects our economy because of their greedy nature, and right now the only people who are benefiting from Wal-Marts actions is the company itself. People who support Wal-Mart, think that they are helping keep the prices low all over, but what these people don’t realize is that the monopoly this company has over everything is going to make people think what they want them to about their company. Are “everyday low prices” worth putting millions of hardworking Americans out of business whether the local ‘mom and pop shop’ Wal-Mart put out of business? Is it worth firing all of the American factory workers, so they could pay people out of the country to do it for less? Wal-Mart supports horrible health care benefits, as well as almost inhumane labor laws. It would be smart to consider instead shopping and supporting local businesses. Wal-Mart is a smart company, from what I am able to tell, they seem to have very intelligent board members. Especially the workers who figure out where to place each Wal-Mart store. They always pick the small town areas where everyone shops at the local farmers market, or the “mom and pop shops” as my mom likes to call them. When a Wal-Mart is moved into a town, it makes it nearly impossible for smaller businesses to compete with their extremely low prices. Wal-Mart will look at their competitor’s prices and
