Barriers to Information Visibility and Transparency The first one is the cultural barrier, which entails the unwillingness to let the other partners get information. In this case, a person chooses to keep the information he has to himself. The other members of the organization or of the supply chain will therefore lack access to vital information. Usually, this barrier is an act of malice by an individual. When designing a new supply chain, this barrier can be prevented by advocating for openness and freedom of expression among partners, so that one can freely share the information he or she has with all the rest. The next is the technical barrier, aided by several factors. Enabling efficient inter-communication between information systems is difficult to achieve. Systems need to be autonomous and inter-dependent for maximum functionality, which requires complex technology, in the form of incorporating artificial intelligence into these systems. The hardware and software to be used in enhancing information visibility can be expensive to acquire, and once owned, the maintenance costs are high. Infiltrations and hacks can be made into information systems that guide the chain, resulting in the loss or theft of information. The partner’s capability to be part of the group or organization is also another factor. In a new supply chain, I would ensure I integrate the appropriate technology to aid in the internal communications between information systems, and also utilize cheap and efficient hardware and software in the chain. The financial challenge is yet another barrier to information visibility. The cost of implementing the various requirements in an efficient system can be very high, for example, purchasing equipment and hiring competent personnel.
