Virtual Reality Vanessa INF 103 Computer Literacy Instructor: Yuhsun Shih April 16, 2012 Since the early stages of life our society always looked for a new source to experience life. Now they have found it. Virtual reality gives people a chance to experience life in ways it have never before. Many careers have used the tool to help workers sharpen their skills. It is a great tool to gain new outlook on life. Our society has taken the virtual reality world into a far more advance setting. This new reality has changed the world we know into a more advanced realm. According to dictionary.com, virtual reality means “a realistic simulation of an environment, including three-dimensional graphics, by a computer system using interactive software and hardware.” Also an early VR [virtual reality] researcher, Steve Bryson, has proposed the following as a standard definition for VR: “The creation of the effect of immersion in a computer-generated three-dimensional environment in which objects have spatial presence.” In simple terms it is a world in which creators simulate as if it was a real world. The world can be molded into whatever users want it to be. In a sense we control everything that happens in the world. It has been fairly new to our society. The term virtual reality can be found in the work of Jaron Lanier and his co-workers at VPL Research in the late 1980s. It has may have started in the late 70’s late 80’s but the technology took into a new and far more advance gear since the past decade. The reality has been perfected to become a world in which user can actually feel as if they were there themselves. Since the evolution of this new tool virtual reality has been used in so many ways.
