Virgin Group Case Study Branson’s Leadership Style Branson’s leadership style is unique in the fact that he is a shining example of motivational leadership. Branson believes in taking time with the employees of Virgin and the customers as well. In the excerpt, it is said that Branson travels with pen and paper and will pull the utensils out in an instant to write down opinions, problems, or other items that he felt were important. In addition to have active listening approach, Branson encourages his employees, regardless of status, to email him directly for any reason. He personally checks his email every morning before he does anything else. Branson either responds personally or takes some sort of action based on the email. This type of personal approach to dealing with line employees is extremely unique in today’s business world. Most employees will tell you that they almost never have direct contact with the CEO of the organization that they work for. The fact that the employees can send an email directly to the CEO for any reason is amazing. The fact that he will personally respond to his emails, regardless of content, is even more admiring. Branson believes that taking care of his employees will result in the employees delivering great service. In turn, customers will spend more money and feel they got the best service. Consequently, shareholders will be taken care of on the end. Branson feels that taking care of the people in his company in this particular order is the way to best help a business succeed. Using this has proven very effective for Virgin Corporation. The results have shown in the $20 Billion in sales that have been generated per year.
