Kelsey is an agriculturally based community whose workforce can mainly be found working at Kelsey Gardens, where they care for organically grown fruits and vegetables. The onsite restaurant operates during the growing season of spring and the harvest season of the summer months. It also prides itself on being earth-friendly and sells 100 % locally grown produce and meats (Apollo Group, 2012). In addition to the agriculture industry, Kelsey maintains a large present in the
By the end of the day, we would have sold out of most of the vegetables and when he arrived home we all went to the garden to pick more for the next day. The garden provided us fresh fruits and vegetables, additional income, but more importantly it gave us time together. We had each other and my dad taught us the importance of family, hard work, and that there is always opportunities just around the corner you just have to look for them. Today, my dad is 88 years old and he still plants four tomato plants and four pepper plants each summer. Well, we plant them for him but he enjoys watching us do this as it was something that he had taught us as young girls.
In the summer I often leave home early in the morning, and roam about fields and lanes all day, or even escape for days or weeks together; but, saving in the country, I seldom go out until after dark, though, Heaven be thanked, I love its light and feel the cheerfulness it sheds upon the earth, as much as any creature living. I have fallen insensibly into this habit, both because it favours my infirmity and because it affords me greater opportunity of speculating on the characters and occupations of those who fill the streets. The glare and hurry of broad noon are not adapted to idle pursuits like mine; a glimpse of passing faces caught by the light of a street-lamp or a shop window is often better for my purpose than their full revelation in the daylight; and, if I must add the truth, night is kinder in this respect than day, which too often destroys an air-built castle at the moment of its completion, without the least ceremony or remorse. That constant pacing to and fro, that never-ending restlessness, that incessant tread of feet wearing the rough stones smooth and glossy--is it not a wonder how the dwellers in narrows ways can bear to hear it! Think of a sick man in such a place as Saint Martin's Court, listening to the footsteps, and in the midst of pain and weariness obliged, despite himself (as though it were a task he must perform) to detect the child's step from the man's, the slipshod beggar from the booted exquisite, the lounging from the busy, the dull heel of the sauntering outcast from the quick tread of an expectant pleasure-seeker--think of the hum and noise always being present to his sense, and of the stream of life that will not stop, pouring on, on, on, through all his restless dreams, as if he were condemned to lie, dead but conscious, in a noisy churchyard, and had no hope of rest for centuries to come.
Understanding the Amish Culture Tracy Sexton ANT 101 Instructor Christopher Deere October 14, 2012 Understanding the Amish Culture Sitting in front of a computer in a house of modernization, it is difficult to imagine living without the internet, designer clothes, televisions, cell phones, and other material items that most American’s are accustomed to owning. In one American culture, the Amish, these items have no place. Instead, the day is filled with working the land to provide food for the family, doing household chores, and helping neighbors build barns and houses. The Amish culture is simplistic and living off the land is one of the core elements of traditional Amish society. The agrarian lifestyle of the Amish demands
Arthur Dimmesdale committed the greater sin because he was a man of faith. He was not true to his sacred vows. He committed an adultary which is considered to be the worst sin because it is against one of the ten commandments. He told the people of lord to be true and faithful to their religion when he was not himself. He did not tell the people about his sin like Hester Prynne's was told.
“There is either obedience or the church will burn like Hell is burning!” (pg 30) Parris tried to defend himself with such passionate and heartfelt comments but Proctor would have none of it. To him Parris was not in his society. Also, his relationship with Abigail Williams was a strained one, plagued with affair, scandal, and betrayal. He did love her, but soon after seeing what she truly was he resented his connection to her and, like what his old true nature told him, he confessed, causing a resent to appear within the town that never gave him his old trust
Rev Parris is not so much worried for the children as he is for himself. Rev Parris is a very strict Christian man, he is smart and fearful of the Salem people. Rev Parris requests the deed to the house as he believes the people of Salem might take it from him, he makes clear how he feel persecuted when he and Proctor are arguing. Abigail, his niece, is clearly the leader of the children and controls them through intimidation. In what ways does she exert her power over them?
The gods fear of being forgotten has them constantly threatening the lives of others. They yearn for attention and assurance from other people. Also, they are content on making their lives miserable because that way they can have the assurance of the mortals having constant thoughts about them. This obviously shows their lack of confidence they have in themselves and the mortals. The gods depicted in the Odyssey are shown as needy and sniveling beings.
Now, by God’s grace, the shining sun is up, and them that fear not light will surely praise it”(67). Unlike different people, Danforth’s extreme Puritanism affects him negatively. His fear causes paranoia to grow within him and drives him mad. There is no way that a highly regarded judge such as him could lack the amount of intelligence to be able to differentiate between blatant blasphemies and the truth. Danforth was far too afraid to face his God and be incorrect when judging the guiltiness of the accused.
