For example sick leave, annual leave, superannuation for retirement and pay for overtime. Without sick leave if someone was to fall sick they wouldn’t receive any pay and could possibly lose their job. No annual leave meant that if someone was to go on holiday they wouldn’t receive any pay, so as a result not many people took holidays as they relied on their income. Even though the living conditions for the working class families were better than that of other countries it was still quite poor. The conditions of the houses were very poor; they were mostly made out of cheap materials, were very small and packed closely together.
Farmageddon Review/Summary The movie Farmageddon is about the problems that small farmers are having nowadays. Less than 2% of farms are small farms. One of the problems of small farmers is that the USDA makes farms have to do so much paper work. Some farmers spend as much time doing paper work as they farm. This is a problem that big corporation farms do not have because they can just hire someone to have that job of filling out the paper work.
People are struggling to survive everyday because they have no food and shelter. These people may always dig through the trash to find something to eat for the day, not knowing if they will find anything. Families may always live in horrible conditions, having no other choice, because they do not have enough money. It’s extremely hard for them to find well paying jobs in these countries. For most of these people it’s nearly impossible to get out of poverty because they were born and raised in that culture, unless other people who aren’t in poverty help them out.
Over-production – Fewer products such as cars, consumer good etc were not being sold as factories were making more goods than Americans needed or could afford to buy. The items that they do own are simple such as “plain chip ware” and “tin flatware.” This couple has already lived their good days and the couple is simply existing, but not living. Each day is routine for them and they spend their time by “keep putting on their clothes and putting things away.” The poem is presented as dreary. It does not necessarily try to make you feel bad for this couple, but it does not present a happy and joyful outlook on the lives of the couple. “The Bean Eaters” provides lots of imagery. The image that it gives is of an old couple with not much to their names who get their happiness from thinking of the past.

LeGuin's short story, "The Ones Who Walked Away from Omelas" explores this very idea; in this story of a utopia of sorts, all the people but one are happy; they have been happy for so long that "smiles have become archaic." It is what defines us as humans. It’s what keeps the world sane and it’s the mere lack of it that causes chaos. Humanity can be seen when you see two strangers helping each other out, when a person cares enough to try to make you happy. The fact that the girl who was a complete stranger to the boy, did a better job of making him feel good rather than his own dad shows how kindness can come from anyone at all and that’s what makes the world a better place to live
