Views on language education The objective of this report is to describe my perspective on what the best manner of teaching and learning of English as a second language is to adolescents. This will be developed after analyzing theory with conducted interviews of Miss Stolk, ESL teacher in the Dutch educational system and her student. This paper will exist out of three sections: Firstly, I will present the outcome of interviews I have conducted of student Yvette and Miss Stolk. Secondly, I will compare the outcome with the theory by linguistic scientist Robert Roger (2011). Finally, I will present a synthesis and conclude. Prior to the interview I had made a concept map based on class input and background reading on strategies of teaching. Consequently, the interview had been developed out of the ESL teacher's concept map. How to teach a second language successful is based on multiple factors. According to Miss Stolk teaching linguistic is based on: class input, motivation, output, and safe learning environment. According to Yvette the best manner to improve your speaking skills is by using the new learned language on a daily basis. Robert Roger’s (2011) presents strategies on how to achieve a successful practice of new gained linguistic knowledge. The main argument is that during the learning process teachers must prepare students for real life situations. Miss Stolk and I agreed on the fact that the input of students is one of the key conditions for a successful learning process. Hereby the interests of students should be taken in consideration in order to let the message be understood more easily.
