Vidal Herrera probably never thought he would be where he is today. His mother had tuberculosis and he and his siblings were living in a foster home. But even at the age of 12 Herrera showed the will to work, and gain whatever money he could. Living on the streets of Los Angeles, Herrera was familiar with death, and decided that would be the career path for him (Allen, 2012). With his high motivation to work, Herrera found a job at the morgue at the Los Angeles County General Hospital. Working here, he had worked on cases like the Hillside Strangle and the Nightstalker. He then worked his way through the ranks and made it to a coroner’s investigator, or crime scene investigator. His career almost halted when he suffered a back injury from trying to move a heavy cadaver. Since he couldn’t sit or stand for more than 15 minutes, it was nearly impossible for him to find a new job. Then, an old boss decided to use his skills and pass on the word of how well Herrera did his job. This landed him a job at the VA Medical Center as a contract-based autopsy technician. Franchising out his business was a very smart move. Since he couldn’t keep up with the demand everywhere, he decided to let other people help him out. The replica CSI space is also a great idea. Since he knows how morgues look and already has the proper equipment, he is the perfect person to start a morgue rental company. While the tamale business looks like it doesn’t really make sense, his customers, who received them as gifts, requested him to start it. He saw that there was a need here as well.
